Maltby Main Football Club
Main were beaten one-nil for the second time in a week, this time at Armthorpe.
Early action saw Welfare striker Bruno Holden have a close range shot saved and Main striker Richard Tracey got in a low shot from a right wing Matt Wragg cross that was saved by Welfare ‘keeper Andy Pettinger.
In the tenth minute James Ellis headed just over the Welfare bar from Scott Somerville’s corner from the left before, ten minutes later, Henry Sibenge went close on a couple of occasions for the home side, shooting over the Main bar from thirty yards and then having a shot from inside the box saved by Main ‘keeper Jamie Bailey.
Then, Bailey was on hand to deny striker Gary Jones following Holden’s cross into the box.
Sibenge hit another effort over, but in the last minute of the first half Holden smashed in a shot to give the home side the lead after Craig Sutton’s right wing corner had been scrambled away.
Bailey produced another great save to keep out a fiftieth minute shot from Jones and, at the other end, Main substitute Neil Longhurst shot wide from ten yards.
After fifty five minutes Welfare were reduced to ten men when defender Danny Sharpe
brought down a clear-through Longhurst and, from the resulting free kick, John Beggs shot straight at Pettinger.
Main looked to capitalise on their one man advantage and, with nineteen minutes left, went close to an equaliser when Matt Wragg hooked a shot from a tight angle onto the post and, from the rebound, Longhurst headed inches over.
Then Beggs set up Longhurst but his shot from inside the box was blocked by Pettinger bafore Main twice went close again in the seventy ninth minute when Adam Shepherd had a low shot saved following Matt Wragg’s flick-on from Dave Shepherd’s throw into the box and substitute Dean Conway had a header deflected for a corner from a Beggs cross, but Welfare held on to take all three points.
