Maltby Main Football Club
Main lost their hundred percent league record by going down four-one to a strong youthful Armthorpe Welfare side.
Striker Rob Hayes was promoted to the starting 11 with Greg Mason and Simon Hickey back on the bench.
The game began with chances for both sides. Main winger Paul Lavender shot wide after Jon Wall’s corner was cleared and, in the fourth minute, Main ‘keeper Jamie Bailey got down well to save a long range effort from Welfare striker Bruno Holden.
Then, Bailey was on hand to block Liam Hardy’s shot from the edge of the box with his legs and then made a great stop to again deny Holden following Hardy’s ball into the box.
Main striker Rob Branagan went close when his close range shot was blocked on the line by Ian Farmery after the striker had taken the ball around ‘keeper Andy Pettinger.
In the nineteenth minute Welfare took the lead following a mix up in the Main box, Lee Mellon heading into his own net from Hardy’s high ball into the box.
Two minutes later Bailey saved another shot from Holden with his legs before Main drew level in the twenty third minute when Jon Wall got onto the end of Mellon’s free kick from twentyfive yards out and headed past Pettinger into the top corner of the net.
Bailey was called into action again, tipping Henry Sibenge’s  shot over ths bar but, in first half stoppage time, Hardy put Welfare back in front from the penalty spot after Dave Gleeson was adjudged to have brought down Holden in the box.
Ten minutes after the break Holden had a low shot saved and Paul Ashton wasted a great chance shooting over from a Holden through ball.
After sixty seven minutes, Hardy got his second goal when he latched onto a long ball forward and slotted the ball past the advancing Bailey into the bottom corner.
Main defender Danny Reilly hit a twenty yard effort straight at Pettinger and Richard Tracey shot over as Maltby tried to get back into the game.
With four minutes remaining Pettinger tipped Branagan’s header just over following Wall’s free kick into the box before, a minute later Farmery scored Welfare’s 4th with a shot at the back post from Holden’s low ball in.
