Maltby Main Football Club
Main’s visit to top of the table Bridlington Town saw them defeated 3-1 despite taking a first half lead.
Manager Steve Adams had to make changes again. John Drennan was back in the centre of defence, Craig Haythorne back for another spell with Main in midfield and Jamie Taylor and Jake Outram on the bench.
As expected,Town piled on the pressure and as early as the second minute Ash Allanson’s shot from twenty yards hit the crossbar.
Main ‘keeper Jamie Bailey got down well to save Ash Dexter’s low shot and Town striker Chris Adams got in behind the Main defence but mishit his shot from inside the box.
Phil Harrison screwed a shot wide of the Main goal and Adams wasted a great chance by shooting wide from ten yards with Main struggling to cross the halfway line!
After twenty six minutes, Alex Rhodes shot over for Town and a minute later, in their first attack, Main took the lead when Neil Longhurst won the ball on the halfway line and ran forward. His square pass found an unmarked Rob Branagan who slotted the ball past Town ‘keeper Mark Wilberforce into the net.
The lead only lasted two minutes. Allanson cashed in on some slack defending on the edge of the Main box and nipped in to fire past Bailey from ten yards.
Seven minutes before the break, Main defender Paul Lavender went on a great run into the Town box but his
cross from the right drifted out at the back post and,  at the other end, Adams had a goalbound shot blocked.
Then, in first half injury time, Town were awarded an penalty when James Ellis was adjudged to have fouled Allanson in the box. Allanson picked himself up and scored from the spot sending Bailey the wrong way.
A minute after the break Branagan shot just wide from twenty yards and five minutes later Rhodes wasted a good chance by shooting wide after beating the Main offside trap.
Just after the hour Wilberforce had to race clear of his box to clear the ball and prevent Branagan getting on the end of Adam Shepherd’s ball forward.
With ten minutes remaining, new boy Haythorne had a great chance to pull Main level but his run into the box was checked by two Town defenders and his hurried shot was just wide.
Then in the last minute,Town sealed the points when substitute Nathan Hotte linked up well with Harrison and shot in at the far corner of the net.
