Maltby Main Football Club
An unchanged Maltby Main side picked up a five-nil win at bottom of the table strugglers Brodsworth.
Main started strongly with Steve Mc Donnell having a shot from inside of the box saved by Welfare ‘keeper Andy Robson following James Radford’s header on and Adam Shepherd had a shot blocked after bursting into the box.
Then, in the 12th minute, Main took the lead when Shepherd got on the end of Paul Lavender’s cross from the right and fired past Robson from ten yards.
Welfare had a couple chances with Nathan Hall shooting wide and Liam O’Neil had a long range effort easily by Main ‘keeper Jamie Bailey.
Main were on the attack again with Radford seeing his shot deflected wide after Scott Mellon’s corner was only half cleared and then his header from six yards was saved following Mellon’s cross from the left.
Lavender had a 27th minute deflected shot saved and four minutes later Simon Hickey’s close range effort was blocked on the line after Radford flicked on Mellon’s corner from the right.
Nine minutes before the break, Robson produced a brilliant stop to keep out Shepherd’s header after Hickey had flicked on Lavender’s corner from the left.
In 1st half injury time Lavender had a shot saved and Radford saw his low free kick from the edge of the box saved.
Main had a perfect start to the second half when Shepherd bagged his second 2 mintes after the re-start by getting on the end of Lavender’s ball forward and shooting into the corner despite Robson getting a hand to the ball.
Two minutes later, McDonnell shot just wide from fifteen yards following Lavender’s ball over the top but, in the 57th minute, Main went three up when Chris Dickman’s free kick for a foul on Shepherd from the edge of the box was deflected into the net off a Welfare defender.
Welfare then had their only chance of the half with Ben Kirkham shooting well wide.
Mellon put a header wide after Lavender’s 61st minute high ball into the box and, a minute later, Shepherd completed his hat trick when his deflected shot hit the back of the net from Dickman’s short free kick.
McDonnell had a header saved from Hickey’s free kick into the box but, with nine minutes remaining, the new Maltby striker got his first goal for Main when shot past Robson from close range after Lavender’s brilliant shot from twenty five yards had come back off the crossbar.
