Maltby Main Football Club
Main were looking to build on their 4-2 away win at Eccleshill United when they travelled to struggling Brodsworth Welfare for the Bank Holiday league fixture.
The home side fired into life first. On 4 minutes, Liam Wilkins dispossessed Paul Staniforth and Josh Giles played the ball forward for Wilkins who whipped in a cross but James Ellis was on hand to clear the danger for Main.
Main’s first chance came in the twelfth minute when Staniforth lofted his free kick towards the back post. Matt Wragg was close to heading the ball home but for Jamie Allen catching the ball off the tall striker’s head.
Two minutes later, Wragg played a good one–two with Chris Dickman, then played the ball through for Rob Branagan but his curling shot was saved easily by Allen.
In the twenty fifth minute Wilkins raced onto Rob Sanderson’s ball and sent over a cross which Arron Boyd headed behind for a corner. From the resulting corner Sanderson went down under Matt Wragg’s pressure in the area but the penalty claims were turned away by referee Chris Ward.
The home side took the lead in the thirty third minute when Wilkins lifted the ball over Dave Hattersley in the Main goal following Steve Philips’ ball forward and Darren Fell’s flick on.
Allen pulled off a great save to deny Branagan with his legs as the Main striker raced in on goal in the thirty fifth minute following Danny Patterson’s ball forward before, on thirty eight minutes, Giles Stole the ball from Staniforth in his own half and raced into the Main half but his low shot was saved easily by Hattersley.
Main equalised five minutes from time when leading goal scorer Greg Mason slid the ball in following a goalmouth
scramble.
Two minutes from time Duncan Milligan lifted a long ball into the Main area, Hattersley punched only as far as Philips but his shot was blocked away for a corner by Ellis. From the resulting corner Scott Stancill lifted the ball into the Main area, but Jon Wragg was fouled by Sanderson at the back post.
Ten minutes into the second half Mason stole the ball from Stancill and played the ball to Matt Wragg but his shot from twenty yards went over the bar.
Main took the lead in the fifty eighth minute when Patterson cut inside Milligan and fired a low powerful shot towards goal. Allen palmed the ball away but Matt Wragg was on hand to fire in off the cross bar.
With fifteen minutes remaining in the game Wragg played Branagan in on goal but he scuffed his shot wide of the goal.
Main youngster Danny White raced down the wing and cut in from the wing in the eightieth minute but he too scuffed his shot straight at Allen.
A minute later Lee Gardener laid the ball off for Sanderson who fired a powerful shot just over the Main bar but, a minute from time Wragg sealed the points for Main when he side footed in from close range following Danny White’s run down the wing and cross to the back post.

Main: Dave Hattersley, Jonathan Wragg (Scott McDonald 90), Paul Staniforth (Danny White 85), James Ellis, Aaron Boyd, Chris Dickman, Michael Baker, Gregg Mason, Matt Wragg, Rob Branagan, Danny Patterson (John Beggs 76).
