Main crashed to a second successive away defeat at Brodsworth as the disappointing start to the season continued.
Five changes were made to the starting line-up with Mark Coggin, James Mitchell and Craig Mudd, returning from a spell in New Mexico, in defence and Mike Taylor and Paul Turner added up front.
After twelve minutes Coggin put in a great tackle to deny Welfare striker Ryan Malee in the box from Craig Watts’ through ball and from Paul Mooney’s corner, Watts’ header drifted wide of the far post.
Welfare began to push forward and had a good spell on top.
Aaron Strutt shot wide with two chances and Mallee headed wide of the Main goal.
In the twenty seventh minute, Welfare went close to breaking the deadlock when Gavin Cooper’s free kick hit the Main wall and from the resulting corner Cooper’s shot was palmed over the bar by Main ‘keeper Oliver Schofield after Scott Stancil’s shot had been blocked.
With ten minutes of the first half remaining, Main’s James Mitchell headed just over from Liam Kay’s corner and in injury time Coggin wasted a good chance, shooting into the side netting from inside the box from Turner’s pass on the right.
Three minutes after the break, Welfare took the lead when Cooper hit a twenty five yard shot past Schofield into the top corner of the net.
This gave the home side plenty of confidence and Watts’ on-target shot was blocked by Main skipper Chris Piperithis.
Then, Mallee’s weak shot was easily dealt with by Schofield.
In the seventy third minute Main were reduced to ten men when Liam Kay was sent off for a stamp on Mooney.
Paul Bradley shot just over for Welfare and Main striker Taylor shot wide at the other end.
Welfare ‘keeper Leon Sewell punched clear Mitchell’s cross from Scott Riley’s free kick Taylor had a shot saved from Craig McCormick’s throw.
In the eighty ninth minute Schofield pulled off a good save from substitute Jason Brown’s header from Scott Gorman’s cross from the left and in the fifth minute of injury time Welfare added their second when Gorman scored from the spot following Mitchell’s handling of a Brown cross.
