Maltby Main Football Club
An unchanged Maltby Main side travelled to local rivals Dinnington Town but, after an unbeaten run of 4 league matches, lost to a goal in each half in this local derby.
After a slow start for both sides, Main midfielder John Beggs forced a good save from Town ‘keeper Andy Thornton in the ninth minute before, at the other end, Gavin Allott shot wide from twelve yards following Matt Haigh’s through ball.
Four minutes later Matt Wragg had a shot blocked from inside the box following Beggs’ cross from the right.
In the twenty eighth minute Town striker Michael Blythen had a low shot saved by Main ‘keeper Jamie Bailey following Louis Axell’s corner before former Town defender Matt Griffin headed wide from a Beggs corner in the thirty first minute
A minute later Town took the lead when Blythen beat Bailey with a twenty yard free kick after Danny Reilly was adjudged to have fouled Simon Mirfin.
With nine first half minutes remaining Gavin Allott’s shot from the edge of the Main box was  blocked and Matt Wragg had a shot saved and then shot high over as Main tried to get back on level terms.
Three minutes after the break, Main went close
when Matt Wragg had a shot blocked on the line. In the resulting goalmouth scramble ‘keeper Thornton was caught by Reilly after gathering the ball at the second attempt, resulting in a booking for the young Main defender.
Scott Somerville had a shot blocked from Rob Branagan’s pass and, for Town,  Blythen had a weak shot saved by Bailey.
In the seventy second minute, Somerville had another effort blocked and Reilly had a header saved on the line from Dave Shepherd’s corner as Main pressed for an equaliser but, five minutes later, Gavin Allott put Town two-up, scoring from close range after the Main defence failed to clear the danger and the ball was played back into the box.
The game took a dramatic turn when Town defender Ben Rosser was sent off for comments made to referee Mr England after he had fouled Griffin on the edge of the box .
