Maltby Main Football Club
Main travelled to local rivals Dinnington Town knowing they needed a win to get their season back on track but, despite dominating much of the match, The Miners came out on the wrong end of a 2-0 scoreline.
Main set about the home side from the start with Dave Gleeson forcing Luke Hands to palm his header over the bar following Dave Shepherd’s corner.
Dave Shepherd then fired a free kick just wide of the post from 25 yards in the twelfth minute following John Saville’s foul on Adam Shepherd.
Ten minutes later Adam Shepherd raced down the wing and his low cross fell to Neil Longhurst who rolled the ball to Gleeson but Hands saved well with his legs to deny the Main striker.
Main had the ball in the Town goal in the twenty seventh minute when Longhurst vollied in from close range but he was ajudged to have been in an offside position.
On the half hour mark Gleeson raced in on goal but he was denied by a well timed sliding tackle by Andy Sykes and Gleeson again went close to putting Main in front when he fired just wide of the goal in the thirty ninth minute and was denied by Hands who only just managed to tip the ball round the post a minute later.
Dinnington took the lead in the forty seventh minute when Liam Morris raced onto Ykes’ long ball and smashed the ball past Jamie Bailey in the Main goal.
Longhurst missed a great opportunity to put Main level in the sixty sixth minute when he beat the offside trap but his shot went high and wide of the goal.
Rob Ward squanded a great chance to put Dinnington two goals ahead when he collected Louis Axcell’s ball forward but the big striker fired the ball high over the bar.
Dinnington doubled their lead in the seventy seventh minute when Ryan O’Carroll fired the ball past Bailey from twenty five yards out.
Bailey denied Town a third when he tipped Wards header round the post following Morris’s freekick from the right before Main youngster Tom Salt went close to pulling Main a goal back when he controlled Gleeson’s pass but his shot went just wide of the post in the ninety second minute. Salt then raced onto Simon Hickey’s trough ball but his shot was saved low down by Hands.

Main: Jamie Bailey, Jon Wragg, James Ellis, Danny Reilly, John Drennan, Adam Shepherd (Paul Lavender 85), Scott Whittington (Simon Hickey 74), Greg Mason, Neil Longhurst, Dave Gleeson, Dave Shepherd (Tom Salt 85).
