Main were dumped out of the League Cup at Eccleshill in a match where they were unfortunate to come away with nothing.
Sean kept faith with the starting line-up from their Senior Cup win in midweek and Main had two early chances, Danny Mullooley shooting wide after Scott Somerville’s shot from ‘keeper Liam Richardson’s long ball was blocked.
Then, another long kick into the box from Richardson saw Main skipper, Chris Piperithis, shoot over.
In the eighth minute, United’s Jordan Missin had a shot saved and Main defender James Mitchell went on a long run but his shot from the edge of the box was saved well by home ‘keeper Carl Zaborowski.
Mark Flanagan hit a twenty fifth minute shot inches over the Main bar and, four minutes later, Mullooley shot wide again.
Missin had another low shot saved by Richardson and United striker Andy Philp had a shot deflected for a corner.
Ashley Longstaff had a long range shot saved and Scott Riley’s shot was blocked and cleared out for a corner.
Longstaff shot over the bar as the first half remained goalless.
Eccleshill started the half strongly with Flanagan shooting wide and Gary Birchall having a shot tipped over by Richarson
And the home side took a fortunate 50th minute lead when Ross Haywood’s shot was deflected into the path of Flanagan who swept the ball into the net from ten yards.
Two minutes later, Main went close to an equaliser when Longstaff set up Somerville but his sliding shot on the back post went inches wide and, at the other end, Luke Ruff’s header was easily saved.
On sixty eight minutes, Main winger Andy Hirst set up Longstaff but Zaborowski saved his shot from inside the box but, a minute later, Main were level when Hirst and Longstaff combined well to set up Somerville whose header from twelve yards rocketed past Zaborowski.
Within a minute United restored their lead when Philp got on the end of a long ball forward and his header from close range looped over the advancing Richardson and into the net.
With thirteen minutes remaining Hirst shot wide with a twenty yard effort and Missin forced a good save for United.
Nine minutes from the end Main were reduced to ten men when defender Piperithis was sent off for an off the ball incident, the home player surprisingly escaping any punishment.
In injury time Main almost snatched an equaliser when substitute Jovan Maric set up Longstaff, but a moments delay was enough for a defender to get back and block his shot which was destined for the empty net.
