Main failed to gain the point that was needed to guarantee avoiding the drop into Division One, losing two-one at Eccleshill.
Three changes were made to the starting line-up with Alex Wilson stepping up from the bench and debuts given to Adam Todd and Sean Hampstead with Ryan Welsh on the bench.
Main were close to taking the lead in the seventh minute when striker Jovan Maric got on the end of Nicky Darker’s cross into the box but his close range header crashed against the bar with home ‘keeper Carl Zaborowski well beaten.
United’s Gary Birchall hit a thirteenth minute long shot wide of the Main goal before, six minutes later, Maric wasted a good chance by shooting straight at Zaborowski after being send clear by Danny Payne.
Then, on twenty three minutes, Birchall wasted a glorious chance by slicing wide from ten yards following Aston Mazuke’s square pass.
Ross Hayward also shot wide for United and, just before the break, Main defender Michael Baker had a long shot easily saved.
Five minutes into the second half, Main took the lead when a penalty was awarded for handball by Birchall following Chris Dickman’s corner. From the spot, Main skipper Paul Staniforth smashed the ball past Zaborowski.
In the fifty third minute, United’s Stuart Waite shot well wide of the target and at the other end Maric headed over from Staniforth’s free kick into the box.
Main ‘keeper Gerrard Bowtell Harris easily saved a low shot from Andy Philip and a minute later United were reduced to ten men
when Chris Cookson dragged down Maric just outside the box. From the resulting free kick Payne lifted the ball well over the Eccleshill bar.
On the hour mark striker Philip restored level terms when he shot past Bowtell-Harris from inside the box following Mazuke’s neat pass.
Despite playing with a man less, United began to pressure the Main defence with Haywood shooting over, Mazuke having a shot well saved and Haywood again shooting over from a good position.
With seventeen minutes remaining, Maij were unlucky not to regain the lead when Todd forced a brilliant save from Zaborowski with a twenty yard strike that was pushed over the bar.
Then, at the other end, Hampstead shot just wide from inside the box as the home side finished the match the stronger with Philip shooting wide  and Bowtell-Harris making three saves to deny substitutes Marcus Edwards and  Ian Green and then Birchall.
In injury time, after Main substitute Ryan Welsh had been stretchered off with a leg injury, Edwards was sent clear and slid the ball into the net from the edge of the box to nick the points for the home side.

Main: Gerrad Bowtell-Harris, Mike Baker, Paul Staniforth (Capt), Nicky Darker, Danny Reilly, Alex Wilson, Danny Payne, Chris Dickman, Jovan Maric (Ryan Welsh 69), Sean Hampstead, Adam Todd (Nathan McHale 75).
