Main caused a major shock at promotion favourites Glapwell, coming away with all three points after a brilliant all round team performance, Manager Robbie Barron’s first win lifting the club out of the bottom three of the Premier Division.
Main welcomed back Scott Somerville, Chris Dickman and Carl Thornton who were unavailable for last Saturday’s home match against Armthorpe and Nicky Darker returned to the side after serving a one-match ban.
In awful wet and windy conditions, Main kicked down the slope and, in the third minute, Carl Thornton’s high, wind assisted cross caused problems for Glapwell ’keeper Neil West. After tipping the ball over the bar, West collided with the goalpost and needed lengthy treatment before he could continue.
Six minutes later Michael Fox shot wide of the Main goal and Main striker Scott Somerville had a low shot saved by West following Nick Darker’s through ball.
Glapwell had a lot of possession and Jon Pickess shot wide from Justin Burdett’s pass. Then, the hosts came close when Julian Capuano shot over after Ian Brown’s header from Fox’s cross was blocked on the line.
With seven minutes of the first half remaining, Main ‘keeper Gerrard Bowtell-Harris made a great one handed save to deny Brown after Fox’s free kick into the box was cleared.
Five minutes later, Bowtell-Harris made another good stop from Dave Davies close range effort before, in first half
