Main caused a major shock at promotion favourites Glapwell, coming away with all three points after a brilliant all round team performance, Manager Robbie Barron’s first win lifting the club out of the bottom three of the Premier Division.
Main welcomed back Scott Somerville, Chris Dickman and Carl Thornton who were unavailable for last Saturday’s home match against Armthorpe and Nicky Darker returned to the side after serving a one-match ban.
In awful wet and windy conditions, Main kicked down the slope and, in the third minute, Carl Thornton’s high, wind assisted cross caused problems for Glapwell ’keeper Neil West. After tipping the ball over the bar, West collided with the goalpost and needed lengthy treatment before he could continue.
Six minutes later Michael Fox shot wide of the Main goal and Main striker Scott Somerville had a low shot saved by West following Nick Darker’s through ball.
Glapwell had a lot of possession and Jon Pickess shot wide from Justin Burdett’s pass. Then, the hosts came close when Julian Capuano shot over after Ian Brown’s header from Fox’s cross was blocked on the line.
With seven minutes of the first half remaining, Main ‘keeper Gerrard Bowtell-Harris made a great one handed save to deny Brown after Fox’s free kick into the box was cleared.
Five minutes later, Bowtell-Harris made another good stop from Dave Davies close range effort before, in first half
injury time, Main new signing Korey Nix had a shot in the Glapwell box blocked and West pushed a fierce Darker shot out for a corner.
Main made a perfect start to the second half by taking the lead four minutes after the break when striker Danny Payne lobbed ‘keeper West from the edge of the box.
Fox hit a fifty sixth minute shot wide of the Main goal before, on the hour mark, ‘keeper West had to leave the field complaining of double vision and was replaced by outfield sub. Paul Smith.
Payne wasted a good chance by lifting a shot over from stand–in ‘keeper Smith’s weak kick out of the box.
Glapwell pushed forward in search of an opening and Bowtell-Harris had to punch clear substitute Nathan Hollingworth’s cross into the box but in the eighty eighth minute, Main substitute Danny White sealed the points and silenced the home crowd for Main’s first win since December with a twenty five yard thunderbolt that flew into the net giving Smith no chance.

Main: Gerard Bowtell-Harris, Nathan McHale, Paul Staniforth (Capt), Nicky Darker, Danny Reilly, Steve Little, Danny Payne, Chris Dickman, Scott Somerville (Jovan Maric 84), Carl Thornton (Danny White 82), Korey Nix.
Unused sub: Ryan Welsh.
