Main were looking to put their heavy defeat against Nostell behind them when they travelled mid-week to league leaders Glapwell.”
Manager Sean Kay made seven changes with Liam Richardson, Danny Reilly, Mark Coggin, James Thompson, Steve Crane, Mike Taylor and Danny Mullooley in the starting eleven, Ash Longstaff and Jordan Stock dropping down to the bench and Liam Kay returning from suspension on the bench.
Main striker Danny Payne forced the Glapwell keeper Neil West into a save in the second minute following Steve Roebuck’s miscontrol. Home ‘keeper West made a good save at the feet of Mike Taylor in the penalty area in the thirteenth minute before, at the other end, Richardson blocked Michael Fox’s powerful shot behind for a corner.
In the twenty seventh minute Russ Hobson fired a shot high over from twenty five yards before, a minute later, Fox fired a long-range free kick high over the Maltby bar.
Aaron Shelley should have done better when he fired over from close range after Richardson had spilled Nathan Hollingworth’s cross from the left. Shelley whent closer in the last minute of the half but still couldn’t score after he crashed his header against the bar following skipper Matt Varley’s long throw.
Main were forced into making a substitution at half time with Kay coming on for Thompson who was struggling with fatigue and Kay almost scored with his first attack when he turned and fired a shot just wide of the goal in the forty sixth minute.
Glapwell were awarded a corner in the fifty first miute, which was taken by Hollingworth and Iain Streather rose to head goalward but Richardson saved easily. Richardson pulled off another great save from Colin Cockerill’s close range shot in the sixty sixth minute but Glapwell took the lead in the seventy sixth minute when Ian Brown fired a low shot in from eight yards with Richardson beaten.
Russ Hobson tried to pull Main level in the eighty first minute but his shot flew well wide from thirty yards.
In the eighty third minute Kay was unlucky not to pull Main level when he turned and shot inches wide before Main were reduced to ten men when Payne was shown a red card for foul and abusive language after a comment made to the assistant referee in the eighty sixth minute.
