Main were looking to end their winless streak when they travelled to local rivals Hallam who were unbeaten in their last five games in all competitions but it was not to be and, after another lacklustre performance, manager Sean Kay resigned, leaving Main with big problems for the rest of the season.
Club captain Chris Piperithis was back in the squad after recovering from injury with Jordan Stock dropping to the bench. Main striker Scott Somerville gave Main fans a scare in the sixth minute when he went down clutching his hamstring. Somerville was stretchered off the pitch and replaced by Danny Payne.
Main midfielder Liam Kay had Scott Dinnigan scrambling to his left-hand post as his shot flashed inches wide but Main shocked the home fans when they took the lead in the twentieth minute, Liam Kay firing in a low free kick which beat everyone in the area, and Russ Hobson directed the ball into the goal.
The home team almost pulled level three minutes later when David Knaggs’s long range strike beat Liam Richardson’s full length dive but the ball hit the post, rolled along the line then was cleared by Danny Mullooly.
Hallam midfielder Billy Rowley was lucky to escape with only a yellow card when he dived in two footed on Liam Kay in the thirty forth minute.
The home side drew level on the stroke of half time when James Tevendale fired his low free kick past Richardson, following Mark Coggin’s foul on ex Main captain Andy Wood.
Main then had penalty claims turned down when Hobson was brought down in the area twenty seconds into the second half by Chris Siddall.
Wood fired past his former club with a close range volley to give the home side the lead in the forty seventh minute before Luke Fletcher forced Dinnigan into a save in the fifty fifth minute after he had dispossessed ex Main defender Andy Brownrigg and fired in a low shot.
Richardson pulled of a great save low down to deny Knaggs in the sixty second minute before Main were forced to make another change in the sixty sixth minute with Craig McCormick limping off and being replaced by Jordan Stock.
Hobson headed narrowly wide in the seventy second minute after he rose to meet Stock’s great floated cross from the right wing but the home side went three-one up in the seventy fourth minute when Mullooly lifted the ball over Richardson and into his own net whilst under pressure from Tevendale.
Hallam could have had a fourth but Tevendale had his header cleared off the line by Fletcher in the eighty sixth minute.
The home side did score their fourth two minutes from time when Brady Roberts curled the ball past Richardson after beating two Main players.
