Maltby Main Football Club
Main were dumped out at the first stage of their third FA competition by County senior league Handsworth, and by a side containing many ex-Main players from last season.
In the fourth minute, Main skipper Paul Staniforth had a low twenty five yard free kick saved by home ‘keeper Paul Cadman.
Then, Tom Beevor raced into the Main half but his shot went well over. Matt Parkes shot just wide after Lee Brunt’s corner was only partially cleared by the Main defence.
In the eleventh minute Handsworth took the lead in controversial circumstances when Dave Shepherd was adjudged to have fouled Brunt in the box and the referee pointed to the spot after consulting his assistant, with Beevor converting from the spot.
Main defender Jonathan Wragg had a shot blocked following John Beggs corner from the left before former Main striker Russ Hobson headed over from Ryan Goodison’s cross in the twenty fifth minute
Two minutes later, another former Main player, Liam Kay, increased  the lead with a shot that deflected past Danny Heald in the Main goal.
Main pushed forward looking for a way back into the tie and a Simon Hickey shot was palmed over the bar by Cadman.
Then, Danny Reilly headed just over from Beggs’ corner and Matt Wragg’s header from another Beggs corner was
cleared off the line by former Main defender Chris Piperithis.
In first half stoppage time Nathan Reed put Handsworth three-up when his shot from the edge of the box went under the diving Heald.
Within four minutes of the restart Main pulled two goals back.
Beggs smashed a right foot shot from thirty yards into the bottom corner of the net and Hickey scored at the back post from Rob Branagan’s cross from right after Matt Wragg’s shot had been blocked.
In the sixty first minute Main striker Chris Wood was denied by Cadman after good work by Matt Wragg and Branagan before, six minutes later, Heald saved Piperithis’ close range header from a Goodison free kick into the box.
Good set-up play by Greg Mason and Branagan let in Matt Wragg but his shot went well wide.
With twenty minutes remaining, Matt Parkes sealed the tie for Handsworth with their fourth goal when he shot into the bottom corner after Main failed to clear at a corner following a Goodison free kick.
