Maltby Main Football Club
Main picked up their first point of the new campaign with a one-one draw at Long Eaton, but again had to rely on a late penalty to gain a share of the points.
Main had James Ellis and Andy Wood back in the starting line up with Rob Branagan, fit again after a hand injury, and Dave Gleeson back on the bench.
Main had the best of the early chances with Adam Shepherd having a shot saved by home ‘keeper Simon Baldwin.
Paul Lavender had a shot blocked for a corner, Scott Mellon hit a free kick over and John Thompson had a deflected shot saved.
In the 11th minute, Main’s Ryan Smyth and Ashley Hunter combined to set up Lavender but his shot from the edge of the box went wide.
Then, United had a long period on the attack.
Aiden Brady shot wide and former Main midfielder Lee Mellon had long range effort saved by Jamie Bailey in the Main goal.
The home sdie went close to an opening goal in the 16th minute when Aiden Brady crashed a shot  from thirty yards against the crossbar.
Live-wire winger Brady then had four good chances, the best being a shot from the edge of the box that brought a brilliant top class save from Bailey, the Main ‘keeper tipping the ball over the bar.
In the last five minutes of the half, Hunter had a shot in the box blocked and Shepherd’s shot from wide on the right was saved by Baldwin.
Eight minutes after the break,  Long Eaton had the ball in the net but it was flagged offside.
Six minutes later, home defender Martin Bowles headed over from Paul McGinty’s cross from the left.
In reply, Shepherd shot over from a good position following Branagan’s 65th minute cross into the box but, a minute later, United took the lead when two Main defenders failed to deal with McGinty’s cross into the box and Aiden Brady nipped in to shoot past Bailey from close range.
With eight minutes remaining, Main had an equaliser disallowed when Jon Wragg forced the ball over the line after Baldwin had fumbled a thunderous forty yard free kick from Chris Dickman, but the flag went up for offside.
Then, in the last minute, Dickman  gave Main a point, shooting past Baldwin from the penalty spot after Dean Whiley dragged Wragg down in the box.
