Maltby Main Football Club
Main were beaten 2-0 at Long Eaton in midweek following their draw with Lincoln Moorlands.
Main striker Neil Longhurst hit a shot from the edge of the box wide in the fifth minute following Scott Whittington’s ball inside.
The home side enjoyed a period of pressure with Jamie Bailey getting down well to save Paul McGinty’s low thirty yard free kick and Nathan Parker had a header from Kevin Mabon’s cross saved.
Then, Bailey made a good stop with his legs to deny Mabon in the twenty sixth minute as the game swung from end to end with both sides having chances without reward.
Dave Gleeson had a shot blocked and Greg Mason shot wide for Main.
Bailey easily saved Kelvin Mushambi’s low shot, Mabon shot over from thirty yards and Parker shot just wide in the forty third minute.
Six minutes after the break United took the lead when Adam Newton shot past Bailey from inside the box after Mabon’s shot had been  blocked and only half cleared.
Two minutes later Main assistant player manager Lee Mellon hit a thirty five yard free kick wide and Main   
defender James Radford shot well wide from long range.
In the sixty sixth minute United were awarded a penalty when Mabon was brought down by Jon Wragg and Carl Spencer sent Bailey the wrong way to score from the spot.
Main’s Adam Shepherd had a good effort from twenty yards saved by home ‘keeper Gavin Saxby and Lee Mellon had a seventieth minute free kick palmed over by Saxby and then shot high over fom thirty five yards.
Nine minutes from the end United went close again when Mushambi forced Bailey into a good stop from inside the box and, at the other end, Gleeson headed wide from Paul Lavender’s cross from the left.
In injury time Gleeson headed wide again from substitute Chris Dickman’s free kick from the right.
