Maltby Main Football Club
Main got the new year off with a bang, beating Armthorpe 4-1, only their 2nd win at Muglet Lane since the start of the season.
Welfare winger Henry Sibenge had a couple of early chances before Main opened their account in their first attack when Rob Branagan and Danny McKenzie combined to set up Sam Foulds on the edge of the box and his low shot crept into the bottom corner of the net despite 'keeper Jamie Green getting a hand to the ball.
Main then had a good period of pressure with Branagan shooting straight at Green and then hitting a shot from 25 yards over and, in the 29th minute, striker Danny McKenzie beat the offside trap and ran through but his shot was wide of the goal.
Five minutes later Branagan wasted a glorious chance by heading wide from 6 yards after great build up play by McKenzie and Scott Mellon but, in the 38th minute, Foulds got his 2nd, racing into the box and shooting past Green at the back post following Branagan's superb through ball.
Two minutes later it was 3-0 when Main were awarded a penalty when McKenzie was fouled in the box by Richard Smith and Greg Mason sent Green the wrong way from the spot.
Then, in the 43rd minute, Foulds completed his hat trick with a fierce shot that went off the post following McKenzie's square pass across the box.
Five minutes into the 2nd half, Mellon hit the top of the crossbar with a 30 yard free kick and Mason had a shot from the edge of the box saved.
McKenzie was off target on with a couple of shots before, in the 62nd minute, Welfare pulled a goal back when James Walker shot past Main 'keeper Scott Thompson from wide on the left of the box.
Welfare substitute Leo Fortune-West headed just wide following 'keeper Green's free kick into the box before Main went close again with Foulds shooting wide and Branagan hit the post with a shot in the box from Paul Lavender's low cross from the right.
In the last 10 minutes both sides had chances with Foulds having a shot blocked for Main and Welfare's Craig Morley had a header at the back post saved.
Main substitute Scott Whittington had 2 late efforts, forcing a good save from Green with a shot and then shooting just wide.

Main: Scott Thompson, Paul Lavender, Scott Mellon (captain), Jon Wragg (James Ellis 73), Reece Wesley, Gary Middleton, Greg Mason, Mick Jones, Danny McKenzie (Scott Whittington 77), Rob Branagan (Ben Langford 86), Sam Foulds.
