Maltby Main Football Club
Main were looking for a change in fortunes after their 4-0 away defeat to local rivals Hallam when they entertained Arnold Town at Muglet Lane.
Both teams were slow to generate chances on goal, not wanting to be caught on the break and  the game’s first real chance fell to Neil Longhurst as late as the twentieth minute when he controlled Scott Mellon’s cross from the left but Tommy Hannigan was on hand to clear the ball away from danger.
On the half hour mark Longhurst had a header blocked by Hannigan after Rob Branagan raced in on goal only to be forced wide by Josh Thornton.
Town keeper Lee Broster made two great saves in three minutes to deny Greg Mason and then Branagan and the visitors took the lead in the forty third minute when Jamie Bailey dropped Chris Freestone’s header at the feet of Tony Law and the striker side footed into the empty net.
Four minutes later, Arnold were awarded a penalty in the when John Drennan was adjudged to have handled Freestone’s header from close range following Luke Smithson’s corner.
Law stepped up and sent Bailey the wrong way from the spot for the third penalty Main have conceded in as many matches.
Main were unlucky not to pull a goal back when Longhurst fired just wide from inside the area after first Mason and Paul Lavender were denied bravely by Smithson in the sixty first minute.
Nick Hall grabbed Town’s third when he sidefooted past Bailey from the edge of the area following Smithson’s run and low cross in the seventy sixth minute.
Main had the ball in the net on seventy nine minutes when Craig Haythorne headed in from close range following Mark Barnard’s floated ball forward but the goal was ruled out for an alleged push on Hall.

Main: Jamie Bailey©, Paul Lavender (Jamie Taylor 76), Mark Barnard, John Wragg (James Ellis 82), John Drennan, Adam Shepherd, Greg Mason, Craig Haythorne, Neil Longhurst, Rob Branagan (James Radford 59), Scott Mellon.
