Maltby Main Football Club
Main were looking to continue their good start to the season when they entertained  league pacesetters Bridlington Town at Muglet Lane but it all went horribly wrong as The Miners suffered there heaviest defeat of the season so-far.
Main were the first to show when ex Leeds trainee Mark Wilberforce was forced to save down low from Lee Melon’s free kick inside the first minute.
Craig Burdick squandered a great chance for the visitors in the seventh minute when he fired wide from close range but Town took the lead in the eighth minute when Burdick bundled the ball in after Danny Buttle’s shot was tipped onto the post by Declan Howard in the Main goal.
On the half-hour mark, Howard came out and bravely collected the ball at the feet of Craig Palmer after he beat Jamie Taylor to the ball. The visitors doubled their lead in the twenty fifth minute. Palmer rolled the ball into the path of Buttle, who burst into the area and fired a shot under Howard and into the back of the net.
Howard saved well to deny Tom Fleming from long range in the twenty ninth minute, getting down low to collect the ball before Main had two great chances in two minutes. James Ellis played the ball wide to Scott Whittington but his cross from deep was over hit and Wilberforce was able to snap up the ball.
Then, Chris Wood forced Wilberforce to palm the ball out from the edge of the area but Adam Mountford was on hand to clear away the danger.
Main were reduced to ten men in first half injury time when James Radford was adjudged to have stamped on Burdick has he stepped over the striker.
Bridlington went three goals clear in the forty eighth minute when Ash Dexter headed in from Nathan Hotte’s corner but Main pulled a goal back in the fifty third minute when Scott Somerville floated his free kick to the feet of Rob Branagan who turned and
fired the ball into the far corner of the Town goal to give Main a lifeline in the game.
Jack Wilkinson ended Main dreams in the fifty eighth minute when he headed in Town’s fourth goal from Hotte’s cross from the wing.
Wilberforce made a great save with his legs on the hour mark to deny Branagan when he was clear through on goal before Town had the ball in the back of the Main goal again when Burdick sidefooted past Howard in the sixty fourth minute but he was in an offside position when he received the ball.
Main were awarded a free kick twenty yards from goal when Burdick dived in two footed on Melon. The referee sent Burdick off for the foul and, in the resulting melee, Dave Gleeson was shown his second yellow card and Main were down to nine men. Main also had Greg Mason booked and Town had Wilberforce and Wilkinson booked for dissent.
With ten minutes remaining in the game Howard pulled off a great save to tip over Wilkinson’s powerful shot from inside the area but the referee wasn’t finished with his cards, showing Lee Mellon a red card in the nintieth minute, s decision that left both sets of supporters speechless before Frank Belt sealed off the rout in the ninty fourth minute when he curled his freekick into the corner of the Main goal.
