Maltby Main Football Club
Honours remained even in Main’s last local derby of the season after an entertaining one-one draw at Muglet Lane. Main welcomed back top scorer Rob Branagan after a month’s lay-off with a broken arm but the visitor’s were without their top scorer Gavin Allott who suffered a broken ankle the previous Wednesday.
The action started with both sides going close with Branagan shooting just wide from Neil Longhurst’s
flick-on and Grant Allott heading over the Maltby bar from Danny Lindley’s cross and Liam Cartledge also shooting wide from a Michael Blythen free kick into the Main box.
In the twenty eighth mnute, Lee Mellon forced Town ‘keeper Rob Poulter into a good save with a twenty yard effort and Branagan’s follow-up was blocked and cleared away.
Allott shot just wide through a crowded Main box and at the other end, Branagan’s shot from ten yards was pushed round the post by Poulter and the lively Main striker then headed over from Dave Shepherd’s cross from the left.
Six minutes before the break Branagan duly put Main ahead with close range shot after Mellon’s thirty yard free kick had come back off the post.
After the break Town pushed forward in search of an equaliser, but efforts from Matt Haigh, Ben Rosser and Louis Axcell were all off target.
On fifty six minutes Town defender Jon Somerset hit a free kick well wide and Main midfielder Dave Shepherd had a deflected shot and twenty yard effort saved by Poulter.
On the hour mark Lindley shot into the side netting from a good position before Main ‘keeper Jamie Bailey made a fine double save to deny Cartledge and Lindley.
Then in the seventieth minute, Town pulled level when Cartledge got a touch to Poulter’s free kick into the box and diverted the ball past Bailey into the net.
After seventy six minutes the game was delayed for treatment to Main’s Dave Shepherd, who suffered a bad knee injury.
Then, in the eighty second minute, Town were awarded a penalty when Bailey was adjudged to have fouled Cartledge in the box but Main’s outstanding ‘keeper made a brilliant stop to keep out Axcell’s spot kick and both sides had to settle for a point.

Main: Jamie Bailey, Jon Wragg, Dave Shepherd (Sean Lee 76), Gary Hibbert, Lee Mellon, James Ellis, Simon Hickey, Neil Longhurst (Danny White 85), Rob Branagan, Matt Wragg.
