Maltby Main Football Club
Main were looking to avenge their 2-0 away defeat at Dinnington Town earlier in the season when they entertained their local rivals at Muglet Lane.
Main were the first to show when new signing Craig McGuinness latched on to Chris Dickman’s through ball but his shot hit Matt Smith and bounced wide for a 10th minute corner.
Town keeper Luke Hands saved well to deny McGuiness’s header following Mark Barnard’s floated free kick in the 16th minute but Town took the lead in the 22nd minute when John Drennan’s weak back pass was controlled by Charlie Weir and he sent Micheal Blython through on goal. Blythen benefited from a mix-up between Paul Lavender and ‘keeper Jamie Bailey to sidefoot into the empty net.
Main were back level two minutes later when Adam Shepherd side footed into the empty net after controlling Rob Branagan’s sliced shot.
McGuiness was again thwarted by Hands as he raced in on goal following Craig Haythorne’s 27th minute ball over the top.
The visitors re took the lead in the 35th minute when John Somerset headed in unmarked off the crossbar following Liam Morris’s corner.
Bailey saved easily to deny Grant Allott from the edge of the area in the 42nd minute and Main had the ball in the Town goal when Haythorne sidefooted the ball in after  Hands had dropped the ball but the Main midfielder was
adjudged to have kicked the ball out of the hands of the goalkeeper and the effort was disallowed.
Four minutes into the second half Hands pulled off a world class acrobatic save to deny Shepherd from twenty yards out before, in the 55th minute, Blython should have put the game out of Main’s reach when he controlled the ball on the edge of the area but his shot flew high over the bar.
Rob Branagan then put Main level with a well worked solo goal. Main’s top scorer beat the offside trap, rounded Hands, and sidefooted into the bottom corner.
Dinnington re took the lead five minutes later when Danny Lindley fired in a powerful strike into the top corner following John Somerset’s ball wide.
Main went close to being level again when sub James Radford fired narrowly over from twenty yards in the 75th minute.
Hands then pulled off a great low save to deny Greg Mason in the 77th minute before Main were incensed when play was brought back for a foul on Branagan by Sykes, with Mason clear through on goal. The resulting free kick hit the wall and was cleared away from danger by Allott.

Main: Jamie Bailey, Paul Lavender (Dave Gleeson 45), Mark Barnard, John Wragg, John  Drennan, Adam Shepherd, Craig Haythorne (Scott Mellon 81), Chris Dickman, Rob Branagan, Craig McGuinness (James Radford 45), Greg Mason.
