Main progressed to the third round of the S&H Senior Cup with a solid two-nil victory against County senior league side Frecheville CA.

Luke Fletcher replaced the injured Danny Payne in midfield and striker Jovan Maric was back on the bench.

Main got off to a great start, taking the lead in only the second minute when Paul Staniforth smashed a twenty yard free kick high into the net giving ‘keeper David Campbell no chance.

Frechville winger Joe Charlesworth forced Main ‘keeper Liam Richardson into a good save with a free kick from the edge of the box before Main strikers Scott Somerville and Ashley Longstaff both had chances saved by Campbell.

In the eighteenth minute Campbell was beaten for the second time when Scott Riley headed in from Somerville’s right wing cross.

Then, Longstaff had a shot blocked, Nicky Darker shot wide and Riley’s shot was saved as Main pushed forward.

Frecheville’s John Crossland shot well wide from thirty yards and Richardson saved well from a Terry Spencer shot.

With three minutes remaining in the first half, Darker’s header from Longstaff’s cross was saved by Campbell.

In the forty seventh minute Frechville substitute Jimmy Hackleton shot straight at Richardson with a twenty five yard free kick before, on the hour, Campbell foiled Somerville by saving a low shot with his legs and a minute later Longstaff shot inches wide from Darker’s pass.

Longstaff then turned provider by setting up Danny Mullooley but his close range shot was sliced wide.

Then, Mullooley had a header saved from substitute Chris Dickman’s cross.

After eighty minutes Longstaff’s header from Dickman’s corner was well saved by Campbell before the final action of the game saw Spencer shoot well over the Main bar and Main substitute Maric shot just wide from another Longstaff cross.
