Maltby Main Football Club
A sixth home defeat as Hall Road Rangers completed a winning double over Maltby Main with a 2-0 win at Muglet Lane.
New signing from Belper FC, Steve Brammer was added to the starting line-up with fellow debutant Danny McKenzie from Dinnington Town on the bench.
The game began with the action swinging from end to end.
Rangers defender Dave Richardo headed over from player-manager Martin Thacker's corner and Joe Cooper shot over the Main bar.
Main midfielder Paul Lavender got on the end of Scott Whittington's through ball but could only direct a shot wide.
Lavender also had a shot in the box blocked and Whittington shot over the Rangers bar from wide on the right.
After 22 minutes, Richardo went close to giving Rangers the lead when he raced onto Jim McGarry's ball forward but his shot from just outside the box hit the top of the crossbar.
Main had a short period of pressure with striker Lee Clay heading over from a Scott Mellon corner and then having a low shot saved by Rangers 'keeper Jimmy Fossdyke.
Whittington wasted a great chance by heading just wide following Brammer's cross fron the left and Rob Branagan's weak shot was easily dealt with by Fossdyke.
Thacker hit a 30 yard effort wide of the Main goal.
Then, in the 40th minute, Main were awarded a penalty when James Waltham brought down Mick Jones in the box but Fossdyke made a great save to keep out Clay's weak spot kick.
In first half injury time, Rangers took the lead when Paul Wilson's shot from the rebound squirmed under Main 'keeper Andy Carney's body after the big 'keeper had kept out McGarry's shot in the box.
Two minutes into the 2nd half, Fossdyke made a good save to keep out Clay's header from Whittington's cross and Carney did well to save from Thacker and pulled off another good save to deny McGarry.
Main had 2 chances that both went wide, from Lavender and Whittington and Mick Jones' 80th minute header from Mellon's free kick brought a good save from Fossdyke.
Two minutes later, Waltham shot just wide from Thacker's free kick from the left but, with 5 minutes remaining, Rangers made sure of the points when substitute Liam Cattermole ran through and slotted past Carney into the bottom corner of the net .
