Maltby Main Football Club
Main were looking to put their 3-1 FA cup defeat to Rossington Main behind them when they entertained Hall Road in the league.
Richard Tracey made his debut after returning to the club as did Dave Gleeson who came in in central defence for Danny Reilly.
Main set about the visitors from the off with Richard Tracey forcing Paul Fraser into an eighth-minute save with his header before home ‘keeper and captain Jamie Bailey pulled of a spectacular save to deny Phil Jackman in the fourteenth minute when he palmed over his shot from the corner of the penalty area.
Main were forced into a subsitution in the eighteenth minute when Simon Megson hobbled off to be replaced by Rob Hayes.
Rangers were unlucky not to be in front after twenty five minutes when Adam Walker’s header hit the cross bar with Bailey beaten before, with five minutes of the first half remaining, Tracey raced forward and fired in a low shot that Fraser spilled under pressure from Paul Lavender but Mike Gibson managed to hack the ball clear.
Rangers midfielder Anthony Bower wasted a great chance to put the visitors in front in the forty eighth minute when he fired wide from close range and Main took the lead in the nine minutes later when Tracey fired into the top corner from the edge of the area.
On the hour mark Rob Branagan beat the offside trap and burst in on goal but his shot was blocked by the legs of Fraser and the ball bounced clear of danger.
Hayes went close to doubling the lead in the sixty fourth minute when he flicked the ball inches wide of the goal from Jon Wall’s corner before being sent through on goal by James Ellis in the seventy second minute but his shot was blocked out for a corner. Wall lifted the corner into the area, Hayes’s header went straight up but Craig Roden was following up and his header flew just wide of the post.
The visitors were almost level in the seventy fourth minute when James McGarry’s freekick hit the inside of the post and bounced out with Bailey well beaten.
Main were awarded a penalty in the seventy seventh minute when Branagan raced down the wing and his cross was blocked by the arm of Lee Macklin inside the penalty area. Lee Mellon stepped up and smashed the ball to the keeper’s right, sending him the wrong way for the Maltby midfield man’s second goal of the season.
The visitors pulled a goal back in the eighty third minute when Macklin sidefooted in from close range following a goalmouth scramble but Main restored their two goal lead in the eighty seventh minute when Wall sidefooted in at the second attempt after Fraser had palmed his first shot back to the Main midfielder.
Rob Branagan made sure of the three points in the ninetieth minute when he smashed the ball in at the front post following Tracey’s through ball.
