First Division Handsworth halted Main's progress in the League cup and ended Main's unbeaten run with a 2-0 home defeat.
The visitors announced their intentions as early as the 5th minute when defender Dave Kippax was booked for a foul on Main skipper Adam Shepherd.
Ten minutes later Main were close to an opening goal when Chris Wood set up Ollie Warren in the box but his low shot was cleared off the line by Ty Crapper.
Danny Smith hit a long range effort over for the visitors and Warren shot just wide following Scott Whittington's long run on the right at the other end.
Main then had a short period of pressure before half time.
Wood had a low shot saved by 'keeper Rob Poulter, Warren's shot from 20 yards was easily dealt with by Poulter and Paul Lavender shot just wide after bursting into the box.
Handsworth striker Mick Godber was off target with 2 efforts early in the 2nd half; his shot from close range following Wes Hill's left wing cross was saved by Jamie Bailey in the Main goal and, after being set up by Dave Cockerill, he sliced wide of the Main goal.

Mason hit a shot from the edge of the box wide in the 70th minute as Main searched for an opening but, 5 minutes later, Main were caught on the break when Cockerill fed the ball wide to the left. His square pass found Godber on the edge of the Main box and his shot squeezed past Bailey into the net off the post.
Main had chances to get back on level terms but were hit by a 2nd goal in the last minute when substitute Sam Smith crashed a shot in off the bar after a corner from the right was only half cleared.
