Main demolished fellow strugglers Lincoln Moorlands Railway at Muglet Lane on the back of a 2-0 shock away win at second place Glapwell the previous Saturday.
Main manager Robbie Barron made three changes with Darren Green making his debut in a second spell with Main and gave Alex Wilson and Mike Baker places on the bench with Jovan Maric and Ryan Welsh dropping out of the match day squad.
Main were ahead in only the third minute when Carl Thornton smashed the ball into the net from close range and a tight angle following skipper Paul Staniforth’s long throw into the path of Green and his turn and shot that hit the post.
Moorlands were almost level four minutes later but Dean Dye side footed wide following Mark Curtis’s run and cross.
The visitors then had two good chances in two minutes to level the scores with both Jake Keyworth and Dye shooting wide of the home goal.
Main doubled their lead in the nineteenth minute when Thornton grabbed his second side footing the ball home from close range following Green’s cross and Korey Nix’s powerful strike which rattled the bar.
Moorlands’ skipper Nick Robinson squandered a great chance to pull a goal back but he fired his shot high over the bar in the thirty second minute.
Main keeper Gerrard Bowtell-Harris was called into action for the first time in the thirty third minute when Curtis raced down the wing and fired a shot low towards goal but the Aussie keeper saved easily.
Green was unlucky not to have got his name on the score sheet when he raced onto Thornton’s ball over the top but his chip flew wide of the goal.
Main were denied a third in the forty first minute when Danny Payne capitalised on Phil McGann’s mistake and rolled the ball goalward. His effort looked to have crossed the line but Jamie Chesman cleared the ball away.
The second half started the same as the first with Main hitting the back of the net, Payne side footing past McGann following Nicky Darker’s through ball in the forty sixth minute.
Staniforth headed just over the bar in the fifty second minute following Darker’s short free kick to Thornton and his cross from the right.
Dye wasted a great chance in the fifty sixth minute when he fired wide from close range before Bowtell-Harris pulled off a great save from Dye in the sixty second minute following Curtis’s corner.
Thornton fired over from six yards in the sixty sixth minute following Nix’s strike that hit the bar and Payne’s header deflected onto the bar but Thornton sealed his hat-trick when he fired a great volley past Mcgann from close range in the seventy second minute following Green’s cross.
Nix then received a great ovation from the Main faithful when he was replaced by local boy Danny White.
Dye wasted two great chances inside a minute when he headed high over the Maltby bar from close range in the seventy fifth minute.
Danny Reilly was replaced by fellow Maltby youngster Alex Wilson with Main cruising at four- nil and Staniforth was denied his chance of getting his name on the score sheet in the eightieth minute when his curling free kick was saved by McGann at the far post with the ball heading for the top corner.
Curtis fired high over the ball high over the bar from close range after working a great opening but Main were not to be denied there joint best win of the season and a boost to their Premier Division survival hopes.
