Maltby Main Football Club
Main halted run of five straight defeats with an impressive performance against Liversedge.
Main manager Steve Adams made changes to the starting line up with Paul Lavender and James Ellis back in defence, James Radford and new signing from Retford Town, Steve Mc Donnell up front with Rob Branagan and Jon Wragg dropping to the bench.
Main made a great start to the game with a goal in the 5th minute, Midfielder Adam Shepherd shooting past ‘Sedge ‘keeper Stuart Wilkinson from ten yards after being set up by Chris Dickman and Lavender.
Main continued to attack with Dickman having a long range effort saved and McDonnell shooting wide from the left.
Main ‘keeper Jamie Bailey was on hand to save shots from Jamie Wasley and Joel Ettienne and Wasley hit a 19th minute shot wide.
Then, Lavender shot wide from the edge of the box, McDonnell saw his shot blocked and Radford had a low shot saved as the game swung from end to end.
In the 29th minute, Radford was twice close to increasing Main’s lead when got on the end of Dickman’s ball into the box and his shot from fifteen yards hit the bar with Wilkinson well beaten and then headed wide as the ball was put back in the ‘Sedge box.
Two minutes later the big striker’s persistence paid off as he made it 2-0, firing in a shot at the back post from Scott Mellon’s cross from the right.
Five minutes before the break, Main had a let-off when Andy Philip hit the post with a close range effort after Bailey had blocked Ben Hardy’s shot.
Four minutes into the second half, Shepherd’s shot from twenty five yards was parried by Wilkinson and Ettienne just beat McDonnell to the loose ball to hack away.
Brook Newton had a shot on the turn well saved by Bailey and Radford had a back post header pushed around the post by Wilkinson.
’Sedge went close to getting on the scoresheet when Philp’s shot from inside the box was blocked by Bailey and Hardy’s follow-up shot was deflected out. From the resulting corner, Alan Jordan’s shot was deflected over.
With nine minutes remaining, Philp pulled a goal back by shooting past Bailey from inside the box but, five minutes later, substitute Greg Mason restored Main’s two goal advantage by smashing in a shot from the edge of the box with his seventh goal of the season to give Main a well earned three points.
