Main were back in league action on Saturday after a fortnight layoff when they entertained high-flying Liversedge at Muglet Lane.
Jovan Maric had the job of filling the departed Ashley Longstaff’s boots up front for Main after the top scorer’s moved to Goole FC. Olly Schofield was back between the sticks following Liam Richardson’s move up to the Unibond league with Lincoln United. Striker Russ Hobson returned on the bench after a too lengthy absence through injury.
The visitors were the stronger team from the off with Chris Woods heading against the post and Schofield tipping Matt Sparkes’ third minute shot over the bar.
Sedge took the lead in the tenth minute when Daryll Leach headed the ball goalwards. Schofield tipped the ball into the air but the ball landed in the net.
The visitors could have doubled their lead when Nicky Boshell’s corner had to be palmed away from under the crossbar by Schofield in the twentieth minute before, eight minutes later, Woods went close to adding a second when he latched onto Leach’s long ball but his header went just wide of the far post.
On the half hour mark Sedge were denied a second by defender Mark Coggin, who forced the ball behind for a corner as Woods had a empty net to head into.
Main’s first real chance came in the thirty eighth minute when Nicky Darker fired Liam Kay’s square ball over the bar but the home side almost went into half time level.
After skipper Paul Staniforth had his header cleared off the line by Simon Wood, the ball fell to Chris Dickman. The Main midfielder lifted the ball back into the area and Maric headed over visiting ‘keeper Lee Ashforth who managed to tip the ball onto the bar, the ball bouncing twice on the bar before going out for a corner.
Sedge doubled their lead in the fifty first minute when Leach headed through a crowd of players on the goal line and into the goal for his second following Boshell’s corner.
Main set about getting back into the game in the fifty eighth minute when Chris Dickman had his long-range shot saved by Ashforth and pulled a goal back when Danny Mullooley side footed in from close range after Ashforth had spilled Scott Somerville’s shot from Maric’s square ball.
On the hour mark Staniforth rose to meet Dickman’s corner and thundered his header against the bar and out for a goal kick before, two minutes later, Kay watched in vain has his twenty yard free kick flew just wide of the post.
In the sixty fifth minute Staniforth fired Leach’s weak clearance against Somerville and out for a goal kick.
Dickman again went close to grabbing Main’s equaliser when he fired a shot over the bar following a great run and pass by Maric in the sixty eighth minute.
A minute later Maric shot just over the bar from eight yards following a goalmouth scramble and Staniforth had two great chances in three minutes. His free kick was saved by Ashforth then he fired a long range shot wide of the upright in the sixty ninth and the seventy second minutes.
Man of the Match Maric was still trying his best to put Main level and he latched onto Kay’s through ball but his shot bounced inches wide of the goal in the seventy seventh minute and he received a deserved standing ovation when he was replaced by Danny Payne in the seventy eight minute.
With ten minutes remaining in the game both Staniforth and Jordan Stock saw long range efforts fly over the bar and Main were robbed of a chance  to equalise when Somerville raced onto Danny Payne’s ball into the area but he was brought down in the area but both the referee and the linesman didn’t give the penalty.

Main: Oliver Schofield, Mark Coggin, Paul Staniforth, Nicky Darker (Scott Riley 82), Luke Fletcher, Danny Mullooley, Chris Dickman, Liam Kay, Scott Somerville, Jovan Maric (Danny Payne 78), Jordan Stock.
