Maltby Main Football Club
Main halted a run of home defeats by beating bottom of the table Liversedge 2-1.
The visitors had a first minute chance when Danny Clapham shot wide after running onto Craig Sheridan’s long pass and a minute later they took the lead when Damien Dunne forced the ball over the line after Jake Lawlor's’ header from John Penn’s free kick into the box hit the post.
‘Sedge had the best chances of the first half with Main forced firmly onto the back foot.
Striker Jermaine Moyce hit an 18th minute shot wide and Danny Verity also shot the same way.
Main ‘keeper Jamie Bailey pulled off a good stop to deny Dean Wharam before Main were awarded a free kick thirty yards out for a foul on Paul Lavender by Verity but Chris Dickman’s effort was just over.
Five minutes before the break Clapham shot well wide of the Main goal.
Main started the second half strongly with Rob Branagan heading over from inside the box following Scott Mellon’s free kick and Paul Lavender had low shot saved by ‘Sedge ‘keeper Mark Bower after good link-up play with Branagan.
Then, in the 58th minute, Main were awarded a penalty for a foul by Lawlor on Jon Wragg and Dickman gave Bower no chance from the spot.
Four minutes later, Bailey produced a top class save by tipping substitute James Hurtley’s header onto the top of the bar following John Penn’s free kick and, from the resulting corner, Dunne headed wide.
Then, in the 68th minute, ‘Sedge came close to going back in front when Wharam got on the end of Bower’s long punt upfield but his shot from 10 yards crashed back off the post.
With 15 minutes remaining Main scored what turned out to be the winning goal.
Dickman picked out Greg Mason on the edge of the box and the Main midfielder played a neat one-two with Branagan and then shot into the bottom corner of the net from inside the box.
Four minutes from the end, Main were close to a third when substitute Dave Gleeson had a header cleared off the line by Clapham from Dickman’s ball in.
