Maltby Main Football Club
Main were looking to end their run of bad results when they entertained Long Eaton United.
Main manager Steve Adams gave new loan signing from Belper Town, ex-Rotherham United forward, Richard Tracey his debut.
Main were quick into action when Tracey raced onto John Beggs’s long ball forward but, as the striker was about to pull the trigger, Ian Wheat hacked the ball clear.
In the seventeenth minute Tracey benefited from a poor free kick from Paul Gamble, raced in on goal but his shot was tipped round the post by Ross Whalin.
The visitors’ first attempt came a minute later and was wasted by Jared Holmes, whose shot was easily saved by Jamie Bailey.
Main took the lead in the nineteenth minute, being awarded a penalty when Scott Somerville’s shot was blocked by the hand of Gamble. Rob Branagan stepped up and sent Whalin the wrong way from twelve yards.
Whalin was then shown a yellow card for a show of dissent towards the referee about the penalty award.
Main doubled their lead in the twenty ninth minute when John Wragg played the ball to Branagan who in turn found Tracey, who fired the ball into the bottom corner for his debut goal with Whalin stranded.
Tracey could have had a second in the thirty third minute when he controlled Somerville’s ball and fired a shot which beat Whalin but cannoned off the crossbar and out for a goal kick.
Long Eaton pulled a goal back in the thirty seventh minute when Nathan Parker fired a powerful shot into the top corner from twenty five yards.
Four minutes from the break. Tracey was again close to getting his second when he raced onto Adam Shepherd’s long clearance but his first touch was a little heavy and Whalin cleared the ball away for a
throw in.
Long Eaton came to life in the second half with John Wragg having to clear away Alex Steadman’s shot in the fiftieth minute and Bailey saving well from Kelvin Musuambi a minute later.
Whalin was again forced to give away a corner in the fifty fifth minute when he tipped Branagan’s shot just over the bar. From the resulting corner Gamble headed away only to Matt Wragg who had his shot palmed away by Whalin.
Paulo Pilerio went inches close to putting United level when his shot flew just over the bar from the edge of the area in the sixty fourth minute.
The vistors did pull level in the sixty seventh minute when Steadman fired in a spectacular shot right into the top corner from the edge of the area and, 6 minutes later, took the lead in the when Paul McGinty got a cross in from the touchline and Kevin Mabon side footed in from close range.
With twelve minutes remaining in the game Main were awarded a free kick which Beggs fired in, the ball being sliced out for a corner by Gamble. From the resulting corner John Wragg had a header cleared off the line then brother Matt smashed the ball through the crowd and into the goal to put Main back on level terms.
Bailey made a great save with his legs to deny Pilerio from close range abd Tracey could have won it for Main in the eighty fourth minute when he raced clear on goal and lobbed Whalin but the ball hit the post and was cleared away with Tracey celebrating.

Main: Jamie Bailey, John Beggs, Jon Wragg, Gary Hibbert, James Ellis, Adam Shepherd, Scott Somerville (Ryan Tate 79), Simon Hickey, Richard Tracey, Rob Branagan, Matt Wragg (Danny White 85).
