Main gained their first points under new management duo of Robbie Barron and Wayne Grant with a three-three draw with Mickleover Sports in their first home game for a month at Muglet Lane.
Main started well with striker Danny Payne having a low shot saved by Sports ‘keeper Danny Tollerfield in the first minute and, five minutes later, Main took the lead when Scott Somerville set up Nicky Darker who shot past Tollerfield from ten yards into the bottom corner of the net.
Sports’ David Holmes shot over from ten yards following Richard Bailey’s pass before, in the tenth minute, the visitors drew level when Kieran O’Connell scored from close range after Holmes’ shot had been blocked by Main captain and defender Paul Staniforth.
Main ‘keeper Gerrard Bowtell-Harris saved a twelfth minute shot from Mark Finlay and Sports went close to taking the lead when Jamie Barrett’s header from Adam Betteridge’s corner was cleared off the line by Carl Thornton.
At the other end a Somerville cross set up Thornton, but Tollerfield got down well to save.
Three minutes before the break Main restored their lead when Payne cashed-in on a mix-up in the sports defence by ‘keeper Tollerfield and defender Barrett and nipped in and slotted the ball into the empty net.
In injury time Somerville shot inches wide following Thornton’s pinpoint cross into the box before Tollerfield
made a great save to deny Darker’s header from Staniforth’s free kick into the box.
Seven minutes into the second half, Main midfielder David Alder-Heaver shot over from a good position and Sports’ ‘keeper Tollerfield kept his side in the game with a brilliant save to deny Payne’s shot from the edge of the box.
In the seventy second minute Sports again came close to an equaliser when Finlay’s shot was cleared off the line by Chris Dickman following Mark Blount ‘s free kick into the box.
Another Blount free kick hit the Main defensive wall and Finlay had shot deflected as Sports searched for an opening and in the seventy eighth minute the equaliser did come when substitute Sean Gummer beat Bowtell-Harris with a header from Holmes’ cross.
Main hit back instantly and Thornton scored at the back post from Payne’s pass across the box.
Late into injury time Sports rescued a point and denied Main their first win under the new regime when Blount scored with a header from Tom Betteridge’s cross.
