Maltby Main Football Club
Main went down to their third home league defeat of the season against a strong Rainworth MW side, losing 3-1 after holding a one goal advantage at half time.
Main had an early chance when defender Danny Reilly headed wide from Scott Whittington’s corner from the right before Welfare striker Massiah McDonald had a low shot easily saved by Jamie Bailey.
Ian Clarke had a shot from the edge of the box deflected wide of the Main goal and Main youngster Ryan Smyth, promoted from the U19’s, tested Welfare ‘keeper Mark Hales with a shot from twenty yards in the twenty third minute.
Five minutes later, Welfare defender Simon Wright hit a thirty yard free kick just wide.
Whittington’s thirty third minute high free kick into the box caused problems and bounced over the visitors’ bar with ‘keeper Hales backpeddling before, with ten first half minutes remaining, Main took the lead when they were awarded a free kick for a foul on Smyth by Matt Draper and Simon Hickey’s kick from the right drifted in at the far post.
Three minutes later Adam Shepherd shot just wide of the Welfare goal and, with two minutes
left on the clock, Draper headed wide for Welfare from Wright’s cross.
Welfare had three early second half chances:  Danny Naylor shot well wide, James Whitehead hit a free kick straight at Bailey and Draper headed over from Whitehead’s corner.
Main midfielder Chris Dickman, returning from injury, shot inches wide from a good position and, in the sixty fourth minute, Wright had a low shot easily by Bailey but, a minute later, the scores were level when Naylor beat Bailey with a low shot from twenty five yards.
Ten minutes later Welfare took the lead when Naylor headed high into the Maltby net from Wright’s free kick from the right and, with eight minutes remaining, Clarke made sure of the points when his direct wind assisted free kick from thirty yards out flew into the net.
