Maltby Main Football Club
Main were looking to building upon their 5-0 away win over basement club Brodsworth when they entertained high flying Scarborough Athletic.
A big crowd of 183 packed the stands at Muglet Lane to see two sides with different aims for the remainder of the season fight it out.
Scarborough started the game the stronger with Ryan Blott chipping just over the Main goal following Mike Price’s quick free kick from the wing in the third minute.
A minute later Jamie Bailey pulled of a great save to push Blott’s shot round the post from close range but the visitors took the lead in only the 5th minute when Bill Law headed in unmarked at the back post from Mark Griffin’s corner from the left.
Simon Hickey almost equalised for Main in the ninth minute when he headed just over the bar following Paul Lavender’s cross before, on 15 minutes, James Radford flicked on Bailey's long kick to Steve McDonnell but his touch was too heavy when clear through on goal and Boro’ ‘keeper Glen Powley collected the loose ball.
Boro striker Craig Palmer fired just wide of Bailey’s goal following Price’s ball down the wing and Blott’s square ball in the 18th minute and Bailey pulled off a great save to deny Dave Ricardo, palming his header over the bar following Price’s free kick.
With ten minutes remaining in the first half, Radford was fouled by Graham Botham 25 yards from goal. Chris Dickman stepped up but his free kick flew over the bar.
In first half injury time, Palmer headed Price’s free kick wide of Bailey’s goal when he should have done much better.
Main manager Steve Adams made two substitutions in the 57th minute, bringing on Greg Mason and Rob Branagan for Radford and McDonnell in an attempt to get back in the game.
Blott could have had a second in the 62nd minute when his header hit the foot of the post from Price’s free kick with Bailey beaten. Main were awarded a free kick in the 68th minute for a foul on Rob Branagan by Mike Gibson. Chris Dickman stepped up again and smashed the ball round the wall and in for the equaliser via two deflections that took the ball away from Powley.
Main were awarded a free kick right on the edge of the area in the 90th minute after Adam Shepherd was upended. Scott Mellon took the free kick but it hit the wall and flew out for a corner. Mellon curled the corner over and Powley was forced to  palm the ball over the bar for another corner. From this second successive corner Branagan almost won the game for Main when he out-jumped the defence but his header hit the underside of the bar and before he could react Botham had cleared the danger.

Main: Jamie Bailey, Paul Lavender, Scott Mellon, James Ellis, John Drennan, Dave  Gleeson (Jon Wragg 89), Chris Dickman, Adam Shepherd, James Radford (Greg Mason 57),  Scott McDonnell (Rob Branagan 58), Simon Hickey.
