Maltby Main Football Club
Main were looking to continue their good run of form when they entertained Selby Town at Muglet Lane but were without injured keeper Jamie Bailey who was replaced by Declan Howard and Craig Roden, who has moved to rivals Parkgate, replaced by James Radford. The visitors were quick off the mark forcing Howard to collect the ball under his crossbar following a Brenton Leister deep free kick in the fifth minute.
Selby took the lead in the tenth minute when Dave Gleeson’s back header wrong footed Howard and Steve Lyon sidefooted into the empty net.
Main’s first real chance came in the nineteenth minute when Rob Branagan played the ball wide to Dave Shepherd whose low cross was turned behind by Andrew Dawson.
The resulting corner was whipped into the area but was caught by Adam Mitchell and cleared away.
A minute later Shepherd again raced down the wing and fired in a cross that was met by Radford on the volley at the back post but the ball hit the side netting.
With three minutes remaining in the half Lyon curled a low freekick goalwards but Howard was on hand to collect the ball.
On the stroke of half time Chris Kamara looped over a good cross that Luke Ibbotson headed goalwards but Howard caught the ball and cleared the danger.
Howard made a great save down low in the forty eighth minute to deny Kamara following Andy Hart’s
long ball forward before Main were forced into making a substitution in the fifty sixth minute when James Ellis was taken off to be replaced by Simon Megson.
Scott Somerville went close to pulling Main level in the sixty seventh minute.
Town were awarded a corner in the seventy seventh minute, Kamara sent the ball over and Radford headed behind for another corner but the referee gave a goal kick.
Simon Hickey stung the palms of Mitchell from the edge of the area in the eighty fourth minute following Branagan’s cross from the wing and, with three minutes remaining in the game, Jon Wall’s diving volley was palmed away by Mitchell down low to his right.
In second half injury time Liam Radford lobbed the ball over the out-rushing Howard but the ball bounced wide at the far post. Radford fired well wide of the goal in the ninety third minute when he could have done much better.

Main: Declan Howard, Jamie Taylor (Greg Mason 73), James Ellis (Simon Megson 56), James Radford, Dave Gleeson, Jonathan Wall, Paul Lavender (Scott Whittington 85), Simon Hickey, Rob Branagan, Scott Somerville, Dave Shepherd.
