Maltby Main Football Club
Main were looking to continue their unbeaten run in 2012 having convincingly beaten Armthorpe 5 days earlier, when they entertained Staveley Miners Welfare.
Main were without hat-trick hero Sam Foulds due to injury so Scott Whittington came into the starting line up. Staveley had two ex Main players in their ranks with Simon Barraclough and Chris Fawcus returning to Muglet Lane.
After a scrappy start the visitors had the first chance on goal in the 7th minute when Jordan Eagers raced down the wing and curled in a dangerous cross but Gary Middleton cleared the ball over his own crossbar.
Paul Lavender almost gave Main the lead in the 15th minute when he latched onto Whittington’s deep cross, but his volley at the back post was saved by the legs of Martin Dewsberry in the Staveley goal. Dewsberry thwarted Main again in the 21st minute when he tipped Danny McKenzie's shot just round his far post following great build-up play involving Reece Wesley, Rob Branagan and Whittington.
Main thought they had taken the lead on the half hour mark when Scott Mellon curled a free kick in that had Dewsberry beaten, but the ball hit the  bar and bounced down on the line and was cleared by Micheal Staley.
The visitors took the lead in the 31st minute when Scott Thompson could only tip Aymen Tahar's cross into the air and Barraclough was on hand to head home the loose ball.
Three minutes later it was two-nil to Staveley when Joe Thornton headed in at the back post from Andy Fox's deep free-kick.
Lavender almost pulled a goal back for Main before half time
with his overhead kick but Dewsberry was there to save.
Main finally pulled a goal back in the 51st minute  when Mellon fired home with a superb volley from twenty five yards following Tom Jones' headed clearance from Ben Langford's cross.
Main were forced into a change on the hour mark when McKenzie was replaced by Simon Hickey due to injury.
Branagan was inches away from pulling Main level in the 65th minute but his curled shot was just wide of the post.
A minute later Wesley denied Staveley a third with a world class block at the feet of Barraclough.
With 20 minutes remaining Main were awarded a free kick twenty yards from goal. Mellon curled the ball over the wall but Dewsberry was on hand to save.
Lavender was denied twice in the 75th minute, first by Jones's block then by Dewsberry's palms.
Branagan raced through the Staveley midfield but he was fouled by Richard Patterson in the 90th minute. Paul Lavender stepped up to take the free kick but it sailed high over the bar.
Deep into injury time Main’s appeals for a penalty were waved away by the referee when Jamie Bowman was blocked in the area.

Main: Scott Thompson, Paul Lavender, Scott Mellon (capt), Gary Middleton, Reece Wesley, Jon Wragg, Greg Mason, Ben Langford (Jamie Bowman 86), Danny McKenzie (Simon Hickey 60), Rob Branagan, Scott Whittington.
