Maltby Main Football Club
Main were looking to continue their 3 match winning run up when they entertained Thackley at a wet and windy Muglet Lane, but never recovered from a poor start and went down to a three-nil defeat.
Main never really got going with the visitors flying from the start and this showed when they took the lead in the third minute, Kyle Shah’s innocuous looking lob into the box bouncing over Dave Hattersley in the Main goal.
Thackley doubled their lead in the ninth minute when Shah launched a long throw into the area, James Ellis inadvertently heading the ball past his own keeper and into the far corner.
Main were lucky not concede again in the twentieth minute when Josh Aston lofted the ball into the area. Hattersley came out to catch but he fumbled the ball but skipper Paul Staniforth was on hand to clear the danger.
Main’s first chance came in the twenty fifth minute when Staniforth played the ball to Dave Shepherd, he flicked the ball to Danny Patterson who played the ball square to Chris Dickman whose shot was easily saved down low by Jordan Yorath in the visitors goal.
On the half hour mark Greg Mason raced forward and fired in a shot but Yorath saved low down.
Ten minutes from half time Chris Coy played in ex-Main striker Martin Brissett, who raced in to the area but Shepherd was on hand to slide in and win the ball and the visitors had their claims for a penalty waved away by the referee.
Two minutes later Joel Birks fired a shot high over the bar from long range with several players in better positions before Brissett fired the ball under Hattersley in the thirty eighth minute to secure a happy return to Muglet Lane and a destined three points for his new team.
Thackley could have had a forth in the fortieth minute when Andy Fox side footed wide from close range.
On the stroke of half time Matt Wragg controlled Shepherd’s cross but his shot was straight at Yorath.
Main manager Steve Adams brought on Mick Baker for Danny Patterson at half time with Main needing to quickly get a hold on the game but it was the visitors who almost struck first in the forty seventh minute when Coy raced through the Main defence but his
cross-rolled narrowly wide of the goal.
Main finally had the ball in the back of the net in the fifty fourth minute when Baker curled his free kick into the area and Mason nodded the ball past Yorath and into the far corner but the referee and linesman disallowed the goal for a push on a Thackley defender.
Adams went for broke, sending on Scott Somerville to replace Matt Wragg and to torment the back four of Thackley.
Hattersley pulled of a great save to deny Coy when the bulky striker dispossessed Shepherd and fired a shot goalwards, the home ‘keeper palming the shot away from goal and Baker smashed the ball down field to clear the danger.
Coy raced down the wing in the sixty third minute but John Wragg came crunching in, injurying Coy and consequently received the game’s first yellow card.
In the sixty seventh minute Staniforth shot wide at the front post following Somerville’s corner.
A minute later Nicky Matthews spun Wragg but Hattersley comfortably saved his shot.
With fifteen minutes remaining in the game Shepherd raced down the wing and lifted the ball into the area, Shah sliced his clearance and Somerville headed the ball goalward but Yorath was on hand to collect the ball at the front post.
Five minutes later Somerville raced through the tiring Thackley defence and in on goal but Yorath saved spectacularly with his feet to deny the Main striker who smashed the rebound into the side netting.
Four minutes from time Ross Daly played a lovely one- two with Birks but his curling shot went over the bar.

Main: Dave Hattersley, James Ellis, Dave Shepherd, J onathan Wragg (Danny White 72), Paul Staniforth, Chris Dickman, John Beggs, Danny Patterson (Michael Baker 45), Matt Wragg (Scott Somerville 56), Greg Mason, Simon Hickey.
