Maltby Main Football Club
Main’s interest in the FA cup was brought to an end by Winterton Rangers with a one-nil defeat at Muglet Lane.
Midfielders Ben Redfearn and Simon Hickey and striker Greg Mason were back in the starting line-up with Ashley Hunter, Andy Wood and Tom Jones back on the bench.
Early chances saw Main’s Redfearn shoot wide from long range and striker Ryan Smyth force a good save from Rangers ‘keeper Jack Ward following Scott Mellon’s cross from the left.
Rangers’ Danny Smith hit a free kick well wide, Alex Yates shot over and, from Craig Robinson’s free kick into the box, Liam Wilkin headed over.
Rangers winger James O’Neil shot wide from the edge of the box in the 14th minute and, with Main struggling to create any chances, Rangers finished the half on top with Main ‘keeper Jamie Bailey saving two efforts from Yates and Wilkin.
Four minutes after the break, Mason latched onto Mellon’s high free kick but his shot from inside the box went wide of the Rangers goal.
The visitors again piled on the pressure with Jack Cross, O’Neil and Robinson all shooting wide, but, in the 64th minute the deadlock was broken when the visitors took the lead.
Wilkin unleased a thunderous right foot shot that hit the post and Yates followed up with the rebound to shoot past Bailey into the bottom corner.
This seemed to dishearten Main and their only real chance for the rest of the half was a goal-bound shot from substitute Hunter that was blocked in the box.
