The conditions worsened for the start of the second half with heavy rain driving down on Muglet Lane. Main set off in the second half has they did the first with Darker going close in the forty ninth minute.
The visitors saw Lee Mohammed shown a straight red for a dangerous challenge on Schofield as he slid out to collect the ball at his feet.
The conditions were so bad that the referee brought the players off until the rain and sleet calmed and the enforced break seemed to benefit Rangers as they pulled level in the seventieth minute. Mark Coggin was unable to clear a Mark Whitehouse corner, heading the ball into the roof of his own net.
McCormick was then forced into making his final two changes with both Paul Staniforth and Liam Kay struggling with knocks, Chris Dickman and Danny Mullooly replacing them.
With fifteen minutes remaining on the watch Darker flashed a twenty-yard thunderbolt wide of the goal before Rangers’ assistant manager was sent from the touchline for constant abusive language towards referee Adam Smith.
Whitehouse scored direct from a corner in the eightieth minute to give the visitors the lead but their third goal was the source of much controversy with Whitehouse side-footing into an empty net. With all the Main players stopped, Mr Smith had blown his whistle having spotted his assistant’s flag raised on the far side. Smith went over to consult his assistant and after a lengthy discussion Smith gave the goal to the sheer disgust of the Main players, staff and supporters.
