Maltby Main Football Club
Main sealed their first league win of the season and lifted themselves off the bottom of the table with a one-nil victory at Nostell MW in much improved performance.
Manager Steve Adams and new Assistant, former Rotherham United and Sheffield Wednesday defender Julian Watts, made changes with a new strike force of James Radford and Oliver Warren, on loan from Belper Town, and Danny Reilly back in defence.
Main survived an early scare when Matt Jackson got on the end of Wayne Ball’s long ball into the box but ‘keeper Jamie Bailey made good block to keep out a low headed effort.
In the 15th minute,Warren was brought down on the edge of the box by Matt Denton but Chris Dickman fired the free kick over the home bar.
Five minutes later Jimmy Eyles shot wide after Reilly had headed out Ball’s high free kick into the box.
In the final eight minutes of the half, both sides had chances after a period of end to end football.
Neil Beardsmore shot over for Welfare and Radford had a low shot saved by ‘keeper Gavin Ainsley and, in first half stoppage time, Bailey tipped a shot from Beardsmore over to keep things level at the break.
Eight minutes after the re-start, Eyles’ shot from twenty yards was easily saved by Bailey and Sam Jackson headed over from Mark Thompson’s corner from the left.
Then in the 58th minute, Main got the goal that they deserved when Greg Mason headed past Ainsley into the bottom corner of the net after Adam Shepherd had picked out Radford in the box and his square pass found Mason. In the 65th minute, Mason shot just wide after Radford flicked on substitute Jon Thompson's long throw from the right.
For the home side, Eyles had a seventyfifth minuteshot blocked and, 4 minutes from the end, Dave Watts headed wide from Thompson’s free kick into the Main box.
In stoppage time, Shepherd came close to a second goal for Main after being set up by Warren but his shot from inside the box went wide and Mason put an effort wide with Warren again being the provider.
