After the humiliating 11-0 drubbing at the hands of promotion chasing Shaw Lane Aquaforce, Main were looking for valuable points against bottom club Nostell.
Manager Mick Norbury welcomed Ian Dring to the management team to replace the departing Keith Mackie, who has taken up the assistant managers job at Unibond League Goole AFC.
Also on show were 4 new signings, hoping that the fresh influx would kick start the New Year for Maltby. On a bitterly cold afternoon, Matty Outram, Regan Kelly and Alex Hammond  all made the starting line up with new signing Brett Bate one of 5 on the bench.
After 7 minutes of play new signing Kelly was brought down just outside the Nostell box. The free kick was taken by new signing Outram who lofted in a great ball for veteran striker Brian Cusworth to head the ball home.
The rest of the half was pretty even but Maltby were being troubled by the Nostell number 10 Rob Boardman, who was a constant threat whenever he got the ball but, despite his efforts, Main went into the break a goal to the good.
Prior to the restart, Maltby brought off debutante Alex Hammand, who had done well, but lack of games were taking its toll. Captain Nicky darker dropped in at left back with substitute Brett Bate coming into the centre of midfield. Within 7 minutes of the restart, good play from Smith and Outram
resulted in Smith crossing a lovely inviting ball for Cusworth who once again made no mistake with the header to put Main 2 ahead.
The home side were now running out of ideas and Main were looking the stronger side in the difficult windy conditions.
Sam Forster replaced Dean Smith and Matty Outram took up a more central role.
Midway through the 2nd half a good move saw Outram seemingly score on his debut with a chipped effort that, despite the defenders’ efforts, gave Maltby a comfortable and deserved 3-0 lead. The goal was, however, subsequently recorded as an own goal.
On 75 minutes a thunderous shot from the ever dangerous Boardman gave the home side some hope but, deep into the game, Cusworth claimed his hat-trick, finishing off a nice 5 man move with a clinical finish to give Main a deserved 4-1 win and 3 precious points.
A solid performance and great response to the previous  week’s defeat.
