Main went down to their second defeat of the week with a narrow two-one loss at Pickering Town. Major roadworks on the journey up to North Yorkshire caused the kick off to be delayed for fifteen minutes and the game got underway with early chances both sides.
Town’s Richard Whitfield shot well wide and Lee Mellon hit a twenty five yard free kick just over the home bar.
Whitfield had a twelfth minute shot saved by the legs of Main ‘keeper Declan Howard and five minutes later Howard blocked a header from Whitfield following Gary Hepples’ long throw into the box.
Town piled on the pressure and had the ball in the net in the twenty third minute with an Andy Park header but the assistant flagged for a foul on Howard by another player after the referee had signalled a goal.
Main midfielder Jonathan Wall wasted a glorious chance in the twenty sixth minute, shooting over from inside the box after being set up by Rob Branagan and Scott Somerville.
Then, Howard tipped a forty yard shot from Richard Johnson onto the post and out for a corner.
With ten minutes of the first period remaining, Town took the lead when Hepples fired in the loose ball off the post and past Howard after Christian Fox’s long ball in had only been blocked.
Two minutes later Simon Hickey shot over after Town ‘keeper Ben Saynor had punched away Mellon’s high ball into the box.

In the thirty ninth minute Town went close to a second when Fox’s shot from the left hit the outside of the far post before, in the last minute of the half Somerville headed over from Wall’s corner.
Two minutes after the break Branagan hit a thirty yard shot straight at Saynor and, at  the other end, Whitfield shot over from a good position and Hepples headed wide from Fox’s free kick.
Somerville’s shot from the edge of the box went over before, in the seventieth minute, Main were awarded a penalty when Park dragged Mellon down in the box. The Main assistant player manager smashed the ball past Saynor from the spot.
Somerville was off target with a couple of efforts and Town substitute Wayne Aziz got on the end of a Fox free kick but headed straight at Howard.
With three minutes remaining Town grabbed the winner when Aziz‘s back header from Hepples’ long throw went over Howard and into the roof of the net.
