New Main manager Robbie Barron was looking for the same passion and commitment shown by his side at Nostell the previous Saturday and they didn’t disappoint with a valiant effort against fifth placed Selby Town.
Barron made two changes with Scott Somerville replacing Lee Dews and Carl Thornton replacing Chris Dickman.
Main set off like a house on fire with Nicky Darker forcing Main old boy Andy Hart to head the ball back to Adam Mitchell in the 4th minute with Somerville lurking at the back post.
Three minutes later Steve Lyon watched his free kick curl over the bar before Main took the lead in the thirteenth minute when Thornton fired in a volley from the penalty spot following David Alder-Heaver’s ball wide to Somerville and his cross from the left wing.
Alder-Heaver had Mitchell scrambling in the eighteenth minute when he controlled Danny Payne’s ball inside and fired a shot just over the bar and Somerville should have doubled Main’s lead when he beat the offside trap to collect Payne’s flick-on but his shot was straight at Mitchell in the Town goal.
Main’s young defender Alex Wilson twice denied Town in as many minutes with two well timed challenges to deny Bruno Holden and Christian Fox but the home side equalised in the thirty first minute when Holden fired the ball low past Main keeper Garrard Bowtell-Harris.
Town took the lead in the a minute before the interval when Brenton Leister side footed past Bowtell-Harris with the Main keeper inches away from getting his fingertips to the ball.
Main deservedly pulled level 2 minutes after the re-start when Wilson rose to head Thornton’s corner past Mitchell who was rooted to the spot.
Payne squandered a great chance to put Main back in the lead a minute later when he latched onto Michael Baker’s through ball and Town winger Tom Matthew’s almost diverted the ball into his own goal when he tried to clear Alder-Heaver’s shot behind for a corner, the ball clipping the outside of the post on its way out.
Main were forced to replace the injured Wilson and with only one sub, local lad Ryan Welsh got his chance to shine in a Main shirt.
Bowtell-Harris pulled off a great save to deny Holden in the sixty fifth minute when he skipped through the Main defence but Town sealed the points on 70 minutes when Keiron O’Brien stepped up and curled a free kick into the top corner with Bowtell-Harris getting his fingers to the ball but unable to keep it out.
With fifteen minutes left in the game Bowtell-Harris pulled off a great save to deny Holden with the home side piling on the pressure.
With two minutes to go Somerville was fouled by Fox and as Baker went to set up the free kick he harmlessly collided with Fox and was shown a second yellow card for what the referee obviously thought was a push.

Main: Gerrard Bowtell-Harris, Jovan Maric, Paul Staniforth (Capt), Nicky Darker, Danny Reilly, Alex Wilson (Ryan Welsh 59), Danny Payne, Michael Baker, Scott Somerville, Carl Thornton, David Alder-Heaver.
