Maltby Main Football Club
Main were looking for a change in fortunes when they travelled to fourth placed Selby Town and set about the home side from the off with Gary Hibbert heading Paul Staniforth’s free kick just wide of the post in only the second minute.
A minute later Matt Wragg powered a shot wide of the post following Staniforth’s ball forward and, on 6 minutes, Staniforth fired a shot wide of the upright after John Beggs had squared his free kick to the Maltby skipper.
Main were unlucky not to have taken the lead in the thirteenth minute when Beggs had his shot blocked on the line by Matt Staley then cleared away by the big defender.
The home side took the lead, however, in the eighteenth minute when Tom Reid was found in acres of space. The Town winger crossed the ball low to Marian Masny who side-footed in from close range.
In the twenty second minute Chris Kamara fired a shot well wide of the post when he should have, at least, forced Jamie Bailey into a save.
The home side doubled their lead five minutes after the re-start when Bailey could only palm out Chris Fox’s freekick and Andy Dawson side-footed in from close range.
On sixty four minutes Bailey saved well to deny Scott Pickles’ close range header bfore, a minute later, John Beggs had his shot blocked by Pickles out for a corner.
The resulting corner was wasted with home ‘keeper, Jimmy Schutt easily catching the ball in his six-yard box.
Town made a substitution in the seventy second minute with Adam Russell coming on for Masny and Russell’s first touch was to lob the ball over Bailey and into the goal following Bailey’s sliced goal kick.
There was a moment on controversy in the seventy fifth minute when Adam Shepherd was brought down inside the area by Tom Matthews who was the last man. The referee’s assistant gave a free kick right on the edge of the area and Matthews got away with just a telling off, which incensed the Main dugout.
Staniforth took the resulting free kick but it was straight at the wall and cleared away down field.

Main: Jamie Bailey, Jon Wragg, Paul Staniforth, Gary Hibbert (James Ellis 80), Danny Reilly, Adam Shepherd,  John Beggs (Danny White 78), Simon Hickey, Matt Wragg, Rob Branagan, Ryan Tate.
