Maltby Main Football Club
Main gained their first point of 2010 with 1-1 draw at Selby with a much improved performance.
Main were without Lee Mellon and Greg Mason which allowed Scott Mellon, back at the club for a second spell, to start in defence and Neil Longhurst up front.
Main started in a positive manner going at the home defence, the best effort being Rob Branagan’s cross into the box that Town ‘keeper Adam Mitchell did well to hold onto.
Then, in the fourteenth minute, Main had a good shout for a penalty turned down by referee Mark Griffiths when Adam Shepherd went down in the box after a challenge by Tom Reid.
Mellon had  a thirty five yard free kick saved by Mitchell, before Town had a spell of pressure with Ian Beckram shooting wide, Liam Radford and Reid, from a free kick, shooting over.
After twenty nine minutes, Selby took the lead when Scott Pickles rose unmarked at the back post to head past ‘keeper Jamie Bailey from Reid’s corner from the left.
Eight minutes before the break Steve Lyon shot wide of the Maltby goal before, on the stroke of half time, Branagan headed wide from Mellon’s cross from the left.
Town had a couple of early second half chances with Reid shooting wide and Brenton Leister having a low shot saved, before Main deservedly drew level in the
sixtieth minute when Branagan was set up by Lavender and Longhurst on the halfway line to beat the offside trap and slot the ball past Mitchell from the edge of the box.
Six minutes later Leister shot just wide and Bailey made a crucial block to deny Duncan Bray.
Then, Bailey kept out a back post header from Beckram from Craig Robinson’s right wing cross.
Seven minutes from the end, Main had a couple chances. Longhurst shot wide and Lavender had a shot pushed out for a corner following a great run into the Town box an, in injury time, Chris Dickman shot over with a long range effort.
At the other end, Pickles had a shot deflected for a corner, from which Leister punched the ball into the net. With the home playing and supporters celebrating a goal, the referee disallowed the goal for handball and gave the Town captain a yellow card.
