Maltby Main Football Club
A brilliant second half performance against Premier Division newcomers Tadcaster Albion, saw Main come back from a 2 goal deficitand progress to the 3rd round of the NCEL League Cup.
Three changes were made from the win at Dinnington, with Tom Jones and Jon Wragg in defence and Scott Whittington in midfield with Sam Forster and Leigh Warriner on the bench.
Main had the pick of the early chances. Striker Rob Branagan had a shot from the edge of the box saved and then shot wide from 25 yards out. Scott Mellon's 12th minute free kick caused problems with Charlie Weir just unable to make contact with the ball at the back post.
Albion's Mike Braithwaite hit a 17th minute shot wide and Albion 'keeper Scott Pallister saved Weir's back post header from Mellon's corner from the right.
Then, in the 22nd minute, Albion broke the deadlock when Matt Howgate sidefooted in from close range after Main 'keeper Andy Coulson had saved Dave Hartas'fierce shot.
Main came back at Albion in search of an equaliser with Mellon hitting a free kick from the edge of the box over the bar and Ollie Warren shot over following Weir's knock down in the box.
The game swung from end to end with Braithwaite shooting wide following Rob Pell's square pass and, from another Pell cross, Howgate had a low shot deflected out for the hosts and from another Mellon free kick Jon Wragg headed wide.
With 3 first half minutes remaining, Albion got their second goal when Nick Thompson shot in from 6 yards after
Coulson had blocked Howgate's shot on the line from Pell's ball across the box.
In injury time Tom Jones shot over the Albion bar.
Early in the second half, Albion's Terry Taylor had a 25 yard shot saved by Coulson and substitute Paul James shot over from Howgate's corner.
Then, after a quiet period in the game, Main pulled a goal back with Warren forcing the ball over the line from 5 yards after Pallister had kept out Wragg's shot following Paul Lavender's free kick into the box.
A minute later Main went close again when substitute Danny Jones' header hit the post from substitute Leigh Warriner's cross from the right.
Albion when close when Thompson's 25 yard shot came back off a post but, with 6 minutes left, Main drew level when Danny Jones was fouled in the box by defender Steve Jeff and Greg Mason smashed the spot kick high into the net.
Jeff tried to redeem himself but his close range shot was saved by Coulson.
In the last minute Danny Jones shot just over the Albion bar and just when it looked as if extra time would be needed, Leigh Warriner unleased an unstoppable 25 yard shot that flew past Pallister high into the net to book Main's place in the next round.
