Maltby Main Football Club
A second away win. and revenge for the defeat by the same scoreline at Muglet Lane in the FA Cup last month, was achieved at Winterton with a 1-0 victory.
Rangers’ Rob Sanderson had couple of early chances and Main defender Scott Mellon shot over and hit a free kick wide as the game swung from end to end in the opening quarter hour.
Gavin Cooper hit a low shot wide in the 24th minute but, six minutes later, Main took the lead when they were awarded a penalty after defender Andy Walken handled inside the box. Chris Dickman smashed in his sixth spot kick of the season past 'keeper Jack Ward.
Main 'keeper Jamie Bailey made a couple of good saves to deny Kirk Frost and Danny Smith before the Main 'keeper excelled himself with a fine save from Danny Barlow's penalty awarded for a foul on Smith by Jon Wragg.
In first half stoppage time Dave Gleeson had a strong header saved by Ward from Mellon's free kick.
Bailey was again on hand to keep out efforts from Sanderson and Liam Slack and home ‘keeper Ward made a good save to deny Paul Lavender.
On the hour, Rob Branagan shot wide and had a header deflected out following Jon Thompson's long throw into the box.
Then, Frost shot just over from long range before Gleeson nipped in between a hesitant Ward and defender Graeme Severn to head into the side netting.
In the last twenty minutes, Rangers pushed forward in search of an equaliser.
Slack shot wide at the back post and Bailey made three good saves to deny Sanderson twice and Slack.
Main defender Tom Jones was dismissed after receiving a second yellow card but Main hung on for all three points.
